How Hiring Processes by a Placement Agency May Scare Away the Best Candidates

If you are a placement agency trying to attract the best talent, but have not been very successful, then you should consider going through your hiring process and see if it could be scaring away potential candidates. Sometimes you may be unable to attract the best, not because of your reputation, but because of your hiring process.

Here are some of the ways a hiring process by a recruiting agency can turn out to be repulsive, rather than attractive to prospective job candidates:

Writing a poor job posting

A job posting is the first interaction a prospective candidate will have with your company and it is the first chance you have to either attract or scare away prospects. Most of the prospects have gone through enough job searching and they will easily notice when you write a poor job description. A good description should be brief and concise, and have all the desired qualifications in a candidate. The wording and formatting should also be impeccable and professional.

Failure to keep applicants in the loop

Failure to keep applicants in the loop will discourage most of them, and will cause them to lose interest in the advertised positions. Some of the placement agencies have the habit of collecting very many applications, and never informing the applicants about the states of their application. It is always a good thing that once the applications have been collected, the applicants are advised regarding what to expect, rather than being left to guess their fate.

Not building a relationship

The recruitment process should be pegged on building a connection quickly when time is limited, and the stakes are high. Potential candidates look forward to developing trust, but it is sad to note that very few managers ever give them the chance to do so. It is advisable to allow the applicants to express their personalities, and be in touch with the hiring agency at a personal level. With such a relationship, the talented applicants will be less likely to walk away.
